Improving my diet and lifestyle and experimenting with knowingly safe and effective supplements has improved my cognitive abilities extensively and I believe it can do the same for you. So…

Let’s learn How To Increase Concentration Now!

First off,  have you ever heard of “The Cocktail Effect”? It’s basically the art of selective listening, or ignoring noises, or voices, in your surrounding area and focusing in on one. This analogy can be applied to your ability to focus on things like work, or learning a new skill. This is becoming more and more of a lost art as we are bombarded with all sorts of new distractions like television, video games, viral Youtube videos… and the list goes on and on! Luckily, there exists a multitude of options  for you to increase concentration!

1. Eat the right foods for brain health

2. Make physical exercise a part of your lifestyle

3. Engage your brain with challenging mental exercises

4. Try out some cognitive supporting supplements.

5. Consider some natural cleansing

With these 5 steps you should start to see improvements in your concentration and they may be very significant. It’s a good idea to keep a log of how you feel mentally and physically every day, or every week, throughout your journey. This gives a more objective gauge for how you’re progressing. Over time you should see marked improvements and be able to look back and realize just how far you’ve come.

1. Eat the right foods for brain health

Of course a well balanced diet is atop the list, but balance is not as simple to achieve as one might think. That’s because balance is a very unique and personal thing. Although we have generally accepted and scientifically backed dietary guidelines, each person is a little different.  So in order to determine what the best foods for brain health are it’s a smart idea to determine if you have any food allergies first. You can do this via an elimination diet or ALCAT Test. If you have any food allergies or intolerances then you most likely have digestion issues as well. The health of your digestive tract is directly related to your immunity as well as brain health. Get this in order with a proper diet such as SCD or GAPS or any other diet aimed at healing the gut. Then you can proceed on your journey to increase concentration and improve your brain health.

Once food allergies and intolerances are ruled out you can look to high quality and nutrient dense foods for brain health that will increase concentration. These include:

-Grass Fed Beef

-Wild Caught Alaskan Sockeye Salmon and other DHA / EPA rich fish

-Coconut Oil

-Grass Fed Butter

-Pastured Eggs

-Raw Green Smoothies (you can check out some killer recipes here

Remember to always pay attention to how you’re reacting to dietary changes. It’s always a good idea to check with your doctor for an drug interactions with specific foods. If a certain food is causing you illness then either decrease or eliminate it from your diet for the time being. You may find further down the road that you can eat it again without issue in some amount.

2. Make physical exercise a part of your lifestyle

One of the big problems with mental health today comes from lack of exercise. For all of history human beings have stayed active throughout the day. Not by putting in a hour every night on the treadmill, but by manual labor and the physical exertion that was necessary to survive. I’m talking about hunting game, tending fields, gathering berries and any other task that allowed a family to eat. It wasn’t as simple as picking up the phone and meeting the delivery guy at the door 20 minutes later. Generally, people earned their food by doing the work that tractors and delivery guys have replaced.

Now this is a very general statement and not an absolute by any means. Those of royalty were very unlikely to go to reap and sow their own food unless, maybe it was done for leisure. And that’s the other evidence that points to active nature of human beings historically. There were no video games through the majority of history. There was no Netflix. There was no locking yourself in your room for 3 days straight watching every episode of The Office back to back to back.

If you were bored, you moved!

Now all of this can be a convincing argument for the positive effects of exercise, but really all it’s saying is that’s how things always were. And we’re still alive right? Right. So, it doesn’t necessarily prove that everyday exercise leads to optimal health OR brain health. What DOES is the mountain of scientific evidence pointing to just that fact!

Exercise leads to increased neuronal activation & hippocampal neurogenesis. It can pull you out of state of depression and even make you smarter (noticeably immediately and long term).

The trick is to not overdo it. On the other side of the spectrum of physical activity in today’s humans, we have those who pound their bodies into the ground in the name adaptation and low body fat percentage. I was once one of these people and although I had packed my skeletal frame with muscle and banished nearly all of the visible fat on my body I was sick. I was unable to make it through a work day without falling asleep at some point and even my hours spent awake for a mental blur as I couldn’t focus on anything for longer than 5 minutes.

So try to find a balance! Make sure to stay active everyday. That means something as little as walk around your office building if that’s all you can do that day. But if possible get in a few challenging workouts a week. Not everyday. If you’re not a professional athlete then spending an hour lifting heavy weights and ending with another 45 minutes on some cardio equipment 7 days a week won’t be of benefit to you in the long haul.

3. Engage your brain with some challenging mental exercises
Physical exercise isn’t the only activity that will help increase your concentration. Challenging your mind results in an increase in brain activity and promotes the growth of new brain cells. You may notice how much more affluent you become after banging out a crossword puzzle or even by creating something like a poem or a short story. It gets the brain moving and actually makes you smarter!

4. Try out some cognitive supporting supplements.

Once your body is back in shape, a well thought out supplement plan can do wonders for to increase concentration. MCT (Medium Chain Triglycerides) oil is great addition. If you’re up for some scientific jargon check out this study on MCTs and how they improve brain function. If not, then to summarize it basically shows how MCTs administered to hypoglycemic/Type 1 Diabetic patients was able to improve brain function.

5. Consider some natural cleansing

Total body cleansing is also extremely helpful to increase concentration and improve brain function. Cleansing of heavy metals, environmental and synthetic toxins and proper detoxifying are essential to improve brain function. However, diet comes first. When cleansing your body is placed in a state of fragility and you’ll need to support it with the proper food, a lot of rest, lack of stimulants, and possibly some specific supplements.

Cleansing can be very, very beneficial once the groundwork has been laid. There is no reason to start stirring up toxins that are settled in your body if you’re just adding to the load every day with Snickers bars or McDonalds.

*Cleansing can do damage if not approached in responsible way.

There are many quality brands of MCT oil on the market, but my favorite is Bullet Proof Upgraded. The whole line of products is top quality. Check it out here (Yes that’s an affiliate link… feel free to check out other brands, but if this article helped you and you decide to go with Upgraded MCT oil I’d appreciate the click!)
